Rubi - Interim Co-director

26-year-old Rubi has been with Feminist Approach to Technology since 2016. She started as a participant in the Young Women Leadership Program. She began her journey into STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) by learning to use computers, cameras, 3D printers, power tools, and more. The hands-on experience helped her get over the idea that STEM is ‘only for boys’. Before, people in her community would reach out exclusively to her brother or other boys for technology-related work. Now, they reach out to her.

In 2017, Rubi and her friends started the Nanhi Bunde (Little Drops) campaign to discuss Early and Forced Marriage and Reproductive Health in her community. She has served as a Board member at FAT for 4 years and a member of the Girls’ Advisory Council for an organization called the Empower Foundation for 2 years. Today, she works with young women from marginalized communities to find tech-based solutions for issues faced by adolescent girls, enabling them to bring sustainable change to their communities.

Rubi is the first girl in her family pursuing masters and living independently. She has been appointed as an interim Co-director as part of FAT's transition toward a young women-led organisation.
